Under the heading “Gracious expectations” we consider verses 6-11. Life can be tough. The christian faces difficulties of various kinds, sometimes through the actions of those who are overtly anti christian. In this passage Peter speaks of a temporary special relief, which he describes, and which reflects a permanent relief in being forever with the Lord in a new heavens and earth.

In the fifth chapter of the first letter of Peter we read about our adversary the devil. The title of our Pastor’s sermon is “Resisting the devil”.

The devil is real. He does seek to lead people astray. He is busy in the churches. How do we resist the devil? Peter tells us that whilst it is true regarding our enemy the devil we have resources and opportunities to resist him.

Come along to hear this important message or listen online to the recording of the service.

Throughout history, many kings thought themselves immortal, unstoppable, and all powerful. The kings whom the people of Israel encountered in the land of Canaan are no exception. From the giant King Og, to the impenetrable city of Jericho, all of these kingdoms had something going for them which, by all means, should have ensured victory for them against Israel. But as we see in this account, all were defeated, for Israel always had a greater advantage.

What is pride? What is humility? How does pride show in the life of a person? How do we become humble? We see how the humble in the end are exalted and the proud cast aside. People may boast now and wave their banners describing their “pride” but they will be brought low.

We hope you will be able to come along or if not then to follow online.

Under the heading “The Call to the Chosen Choir” Josh will take us through the message of Psalm 135. That psalm is a wonderful call to the Christian to praise their Saviour. The Psalm reminds us of why we worship. The Lord has chosen us, conquered for us and shown compassion towards us. The Psalm also reminds us of what we have left behind us and calls others to forsake the idols of this world.

The Psalm wonderfully follows on from the Songs of Ascents. It carries on the call to bless the Lord from Psalm 134. This is the song of those servants standing faithfully in the house of the Lord.

Some who opposed Jesus, not believing Him to be the Saviour if sinners “, called Him a friend of sinners as an insult. In fact it was a lovely compliment of the graciousness of the Lord Jesus. We read about it in Luke chapter 7.

What does it mean that Jesus is a friend of sinners? What kind of friendship is it? What kind of friend is Jesus? Can you say He is your friend?

Do make time to come and join with us on Sunday.
