What is the priority in your life? What is it that you devote most of your time and energy to? In this passage someone makes a request of Jesus that he would intervene in a family dispute so that the complainant would receive the money he believes that he is due. Materialism – the accumulation of possessions and money as the primary goal – is an attitude that was present in Jesus’ day and is still rampant today.

In response Jesus tells this parable to show the folly of living for material welfare that doesn’t last while neglecting to look after your spiritual welfare in eternity.

Psalm 130 is a wonderful Psalm on the relationship that we have as Christians with our God. The Psalm explains the hope that we can have even when we are very low. For the Christian has a tremendous hope that nothing is without purpose and that no matter how dark a situation may get our God always has one more move that He can make to ensure that His people are secure and never lost.

This is the second in an occasional series on the “I am” statements in the Old Testament. These are where God’s name “I am” has a suffix which describes his relationship to his people. The subject of healing can be controversial amongst Christians and it is important to see this verse in its context. The Israelites are on their way to the promised land and our ultimate healing lies in heaven, but as healing was part of the ministry of Jesus, so it can be our experience as well.

The title of the sermon is “God cleanses our sins”.

Before we believe in Jesus, we have a problem. We are morally impure and cannot get rid of our sins. Thankfully, there’s a solution. Isaiah’s incredible vision in chapter 6 shows us that God wants to cleanse us from our sins. God reveals a pattern for being cleaned from our sins. We should revere his holiness, repent of our sinfulness and then receive his grace.
